The Data Instincts Team
The Data Instincts Team is managed by Mark Millan and is made
up of Data Instincts staff and several sub-contractors who have worked together
for over a dozen years on public outreach assignments covering a variety of
projects in water reuse, water conservation and water supply issues.
Mark Millan, Principal -
Mark has over twenty years experience in marketing and public relations, and ten
years in Web development strategies. He has been a Creative Director with
advertising firms and a Senior Executive with publishing organizations in the
San Francisco Bay Area. His skills and experience in public relations are
extensive and include work in radio & TV production, copy writing, publishing
and mediation. His firm specializes in developing public outreach strategies for
challenging public projects and specifically public information and community
relations for Environmental Impact Reports and construction of recycled water
projects. For over 10 years, Mark’s firm has introduced new techniques to the
public involvement and outreach process for recycled water projects and has
conducted extensive surveys and focus groups on public perceptions of recycled
water uses. Mark currently serves as chair of the Public Education and Outreach
Committee for the
WateReuse
Association.
Lisa Brew-Miller, Associate -
Lisa brings to Data Instincts over a decade of experience as a research project
director, analyst and marketing/public relations copy writer. She has performed
analytical, writing, and/or project management services for a number of
industries including local government, broadcast media, wine, banking, and
advertising. She is skilled at presenting complex, statistical data in report
summaries that are clear, concise and actionable. She has been associated with
Data Instincts for nearly ten years and has written public relations/information
pieces for The Geysers Recharge Project, Incremental Recycled Water Program,
Vintage Greens sub-division, Redwood City’s Recycled Water Project and many
other Data Instincts clients. Lisa holds an undergraduate degree in Business
Management from Sonoma State University and an M.B.A. in Marketing from Golden
Gate University.
Barry Dugan, Associate -
Barry brings more than two decades as a newspaper
journalist to the Data Instincts team and provides
our clients with important perspectives when
interfacing with media. His experience includes
reporting and analysis on a variety of environmental
subjects, with a particular interest in water
supply, water reuse, politics and government
planning. He has received numerous awards for his
writing and editing. Barry holds a Bachelor’s Degree
in Liberal Studies from the Hutchins School at
Sonoma State University.
Keith Smith, Webmaster -
Keith is in charge of Website design, for DataInstincts.com. Making sure the user has a visually pleasing
and easy to navigate site, along with convenient access to information is his paramount goal. He has been developing online content since
1995 and has over 25-years experience in the computer-generated graphics field
as Principle of
GraphicSmiths. Keith is a graduate of the University of Arizona,
holding a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business
Administration.
Alicia Deguchi, Graphic
Design/Copy Writing -
Alicia is a graphic design and marketing
professional. Her background includes work with a
variety of companies, ranging from non-profit
organizations to high technology firms. She is
experienced in bringing together targeted design and
graphic elements, in conjunction with well-written
copy. She has been working with Data Instincts for
over five years. Alicia holds a Bachelor's Degree
from San Jose State University in Advertising and
Graphic Design.
Data Instincts also utilizes the unique design
talents of
Melanie Rosales Design and
Precision Design. Their contributions toward
designing public information messages regarding
recycled water use and water conservation have been
invaluable.
